The origin of the roulette game

The exact origins of roulette are not entirely clear. Some theories suggest that roulette-like games were played in ancient China where they created a wheel not with numbers but with pictures of animals. Other theories speak of a game of Roman legionaries spinning a chariot wheel or shield. They simply guessed what symbol would fall which is very similar to modern roulette.
American roulette with two zeros
The closest resemblance to modern roulette, however, are the games that were developed in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. One popular theory is that the French mathematician Blaise Pascal may be considered the father of roulette. When in 1655 he tried to build a perpetual motion machine, he created a mechanism that was very similar to a roulette wheel. The game gradually spread from France to Europe and later to America. While the European version of roulette with a single square of zero (0) has become standard in many parts of the world, Americans in the 19th century added a second square of zero (00) to the playing field, giving rise to American roulette.
American roulette thus differs from its French predecessor mainly by the presence of a double zero (00). This change in the roulette structure may seem like a minor detail at first glance, but it has quite a profound effect on players' strategies and their chances of winning. The added field increases the house edge from 2.7% in European roulette to 5.26% in the American variant. Nevertheless, many players prefer the American version of roulette. In addition, some casinos offer games with a variety of additional betting options that add to the excitement and adrenaline of the game.
Gambling has deep roots in human history and American roulette has a special place among them. It is a combination of chance, risk, and strategy, all set to the light flashes of a spinning wheel.
